Letter from the director of education to TLDSB families: Attendance matters

Dear TLDSB parents/guardians,

On behalf of the school administrators, senior leadership, and trustees, thank you for all that you’ve done to make the start of the 2024-2025 school year such a success!

School is a place where social connections are forged, new skills are learned, and a structured routine is formed, all of which create foundational life skills that will help your child(ren) be successful well beyond their school years. The Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) staff care about your children and can’t wait to see them each and every school day.

I know you are as eager as I am to make sure your child(ren) has every opportunity to engage in the learning opportunities available to them. To ensure they have these opportunities, daily attendance is extremely important and can also assist in:

  • Reducing stress
  • Making it easier to connect with friends and teachers
  • Continuing the learning that is built upon each day
  • Developing new and existing skills by being part of school activities and events

Here are some ideas on how to set healthy habits and encourage attendance with your child(ren):

  • Set a daily schedule to get a good night’s sleep
  • Remind students of the positive things happening at school
  • Spend time outdoors and doing activities your child enjoys
  • Limit screen time. Please see the Limiting screen time and getting kids moving article on the SickKids website.

If you need help with supporting your child(ren)’s attendance, please contact your child’s teacher or the school principal.

Sincerely,

Wes Hahn
Director of Education
Trillium Lakelands District School Board

January 21 inclement weather day – Zone 1

Due to the forecasted inclement weather with poor visibility and road conditions throughout the day, transportation to schools is not operating in Zone 1 today, Tuesday, January 21. Schools remain open and learning opportunities will continue for students who are able to safely attend in person.

Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation of their student(s) to and from school on inclement weather days. Drop-off and pick-up must occur in alignment with the regular school day start and end times.

Visit our Transportation Information page for school zone information.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.
